How Sweet it is...
After the successful launch of our first Advent Train toy, we knew we wanted to continue the success by coming up a with a new version for the second year. After lots of research into the toy industry trends and competitive advent products, we realized that combining figures with vehicles that interact with one another would be the perfect "sweet" spot. With this idea in mind, I quickly came up with the theme of "sweet rides" that combined the Christmas traditions of Scout Elves and Sweet Treats.

That's a pretty sweet ride!
By cleverly designing the body of each car to be either a simple round or square shape, we were able to keep our tooling costs way down by only using deco operations to make each car unique. These were only a few of the options that I rendered up, but the simplistic design allowed us to design countless additional options if needed.

After reviewing the initial designs of the cars, I realized there is a much easier and cheaper way to attach the wheels onto the body. Instead of having 4 individual snap on wheels, I could combine the front two and back two into 2 individual axles that then pop on from the bottom. This allowed all the wheels to share a common tool.

The Sweetest thing!
After updating the CAD and reapplying the graphics to the cars, the new options were presented to the larger Creative Team in order to narrow down. The final options were hand-picked and then updated a little in order to achieve the desired product cost. These were the final renderings before we released for tooling.
